Little Rock, Arkansas – The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), a part of the U.S. Department of Transportation, is joining forces with the Arkansas State Police to introduce a new initiative titled “Speeding Slows You Down.”
According to a press statement disseminated by the Arkansas State Police, the campaign, which commences on July 17 and extends until July 31, is conceived to bolster public consciousness about the perils associated with speeding. During this campaign, the Arkansas State Police warns that any traffic stops for speeding will likely result in citations.
The Arkansas State Police highlighted alarming statistics from the previous year – in 2020, deaths resulting from speeding reached 11,258, contributing to over a quarter of all traffic offenses.
Colonel Mike Hagar, Arkansas Public Safety Secretary, underscored the gravity of obeying speed regulations. “Speed limit signs are not suggestions. They are the law,” Hagar declared. He emphasized that these laws exist to ensure the safety of all road users, further cautioning that fatal accidents offer no second chances and asserting that the risks of speeding far outweigh any perceived benefits.
In line with the NHTSA’s statistics, local routes have been found to be riskier than highways for those who speed. Data from 2020 reveals that 87 percent of all fatalities arising from speeding on American roads took place on non-interstate roadways.
