Little Rock, Arkansas – Residents of Little Rock affected by the March 31 tornado are being informed about the “Little Rock Cares” grant. This initiative was introduced the day following the tornado, which affected numerous residents.
Mollie Palmer, representing the Heart of Arkansas United Way, has stated that in-person assistance will be available for the coming three weeks. This decision comes with the understanding that not everyone may be familiar with the online application process, which commenced on August 1. Palmer emphasized the simplicity of the application, which seeks to understand the individual impact of the tornado on applicants, the aid they have received, and any outstanding needs.
“For the next three Thursdays, they will be available at a public library in Little Rock from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.,” said Palmer, noting that application requests will conclude on September 15. At present, approximately 170 applications have been finalized, with more in draft status.
A representative from the City of Little Rock confirmed that $600,000 has been raised for the “Little Rock Cares” initiative. Currently, $400,000 is allocated to individuals, while $200,000 is reserved for non-profit entities that assisted during the tornado emergency. Donations continue to be received.
Palmer provided insight into the review process, stating that in October, volunteers would assess applications without identifying details. Grant awardees will be informed in November.
