Arkansas State Police investigate deadly shooting in Eureka Springs

Eureka Springs, Arkansas – Arkansas State Police are investigating an officer-involved shooting that resulted in the death of 36-year-old Christopher Vanschoick in Eureka Springs on Saturday.

The situation unfolded when the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office received reports of Vanschoick brandishing a handgun during a disturbance at the Rowdy Beaver Den, located at 47 Spring Street. Responding to the call, officers from the Eureka Springs Police Department (ESPD) located Vanschoick seated in his vehicle near the establishment.

What began as an attempt to manage the situation escalated quickly. A struggle ensued between Vanschoick and the responding officers, during which Vanschoick produced a handgun. The confrontation reached a fatal conclusion when an officer discharged their weapon, striking Vanschoick.

The aftermath of the incident saw Vanschoick declared deceased by the Carroll County coroner’s office. In the interest of a thorough investigation and determination of the precise cause and manner of death, his body was subsequently transported to the Arkansas State Crime Laboratory.
