Little Rock, Arkansas – In response to the anticipated high temperatures for the week, the City of Little Rock has opened cooling centers at several community locations.

Available to the general public until Saturday, Aug. 26, these facilities will operate between 9 a.m. and 6 p.m. The designated centers include:

  • Dunbar Community Center, 1001 W. 16th St.
  • East Little Rock Community Center, 2500 E. Sixth St.
  • Southwest Community Center, 6401 Baseline Road
  • Stephens Community Center, 3720 W. 18th St.
  • West Central Community Center, 8616 Colonel Glenn Road.

These cooling centers cater to residents seeking relief during this heatwave, offering a secure and comfortable refuge during extreme temperature spikes.

Moreover, the City is showing due diligence in safeguarding its workforce against the heat’s effects. External work activities will be suspended if anticipated heat index surpass 105 degrees.

It’s worth noting that the intense heat may introduce service disruptions, such as potential delays in yard waste collection. During this phase, the City’s primary concern remains the safety and welfare of both its inhabitants and employees. Therefore, necessary modifications to regular services and operations will be implemented.
