Little Rock, Arkansas – Recent data released by the U.S. Department of Labor’s Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) indicates a marginal rise in the unemployment rate in Arkansas. As per the agency’s official statement, Arkansas witnessed a one-tenth percentage point increase in unemployment, shifting from 2.6% in the prior month to 2.7% in August.

In-depth figures from the data revealed that the state’s civilian labor force underwent an expansion, with an increase of 2,556 individuals. This growth unfortunately also resulted in an uptick of 895 newly unemployed Arkansans. On a positive note, when comparing year-over-year data from August 2022, there’s been a commendable increase of 28,229 employed Arkansans and 9,525 fewer unemployed residents.

Interestingly, this August rise is the first jump in unemployment the state has observed since October 2022. The report showed that an additional 1,661 Arkansans are now actively seeking employment.

However, it’s not all bleak. Nonfarm payroll jobs observed a rise by 5,100 in August. This increase, as described by agency officials, was most pronounced in sectors such as government, professional and business services, leisure and hospitality, as well as private educational and health services. This boost, especially in the educational sector, is attributed to the commencement of the new school year.
