Little Rock, Arkansas – The heart of Little Rock was bustling with activity this Sunday as the 12th annual Main Street Food Truck Festival took place, with a staggering 35,000 attendees expected to grace Main Street. This event, spearheaded by the Downtown Little Rock Partnership—a nonprofit dedicated to the downtown area’s revitalization—was originally conceived as a strategy to attract crowds to downtown during weekends.
Over the years, while the core objective remains the same, the festival has evolved into a platform where the community can contribute to public art and other cost-free events in Little Rock. Nashiya Adams, the proud owner of the ‘Shiya’s Kool Aid Pickles’ food truck, had a particularly memorable experience. “We sold out of like 300 something, the most we’ve ever done,” shared an elated Adams, emphasizing the event’s significance not just for her business but also for Downtown Little Rock as a whole.
According to Gabe Holmstrom, Executive Director of the Downtown Little Rock Partnership, the event has played a pivotal role in transforming the downtown landscape. “Back in 2010, Main Street was devoid of restaurants. Now, it’s a bustling avenue filled with dining establishments, showing people’s eagerness to enjoy food and beverages in urban settings,” Adams pointed out.
This year’s festival was grander than ever, with 65 food trucks, 50 craft vendors, and a diverse range of 40 musical acts. Hundreds of volunteers made this possible. “Such events generate the required funds to support public art, events, movies, and even the development of amenities like the pocket park,” remarked Holmstrom.
Driven by her positive experience, Adams expressed her commitment to the downtown spirit, stating, “We are coming back next year, back and better.”
The Downtown Little Rock Partnership envisions a future where the downtown area is a hub for living, working, playing, and investing. Planning for the 2024 Main Street Food Truck Festival is already on the horizon, set to begin this upcoming January.
